If dragons are mythical creatures, then dragonfruits must be equally full of lore. Right?

This morning as I was making my rounds, I happened to pop into an Asian market with a large selection of “peculiar” fruits and vegetables. I saw this pinking looking creature fruit and thought I’d try it. I made sure to IM my friend Fatty to get her opinion, because when it comes to food, she is my Seoul mate.

In any case, she described the taste to be like “strawberry-kiwi”. Sounded good to me.

When I came home, per Fatty’s instructions, I cut it open and ate it with a spoon. The texture was very similar to that of a kiwi, but the flavor was very different. It had a subtle sweetness that brought back memories of my childhood when I ate a lychee for the first time. With each bite, I wanted more because the flavor was such a wonderful tease to my palate.

The seeds are very gentle and don’t impact the flavor or the texture. They remind me of kiwi seeds.

In any case, I will go back to the market to pick up some more of these. Try one. You’ll like it.
